The Foundation for Health Research Management of Seville (FISEVI) recognises the excellence of doctors Sonsoles Salto Alejandre and Fátima Aguilar, who have been distinguished as 2026 Outstanding Residents for their academic achievements, commitment to research and professional trajectory throughout their specialised healthcare training period.

These awards are organised by the Management Directorate of Seville University Hospital Virgen del Rocío, in collaboration with its Teaching Committee and FISEVI, and are aimed at residents who completed their residency training during the 2025-2026 academic year. The distinction highlights the excellence of professionals who have demonstrated dedication, scientific training and a commitment to the continuous improvement of clinical practice.

The first excellence award has been granted to Dr Sonsoles Salto Alejandre, a specialist in Internal Medicine, while the second recognition has been awarded to Dr Fátima Aguilar, a specialist in General and Digestive Surgery.

Dr Sonsoles Salto Alejandre has developed a career that combines clinical care with biomedical research. In addition to her work as an Internal Medicine specialist, she carries out her research activity at the Institute of Biomedicine of Seville (IBiS) as a member of the research group Infectious Diseases and the Immune System: Viral Infections and Infections in Immunocompromised Patients.

The Outstanding Residents awards assess different aspects of the candidates’ professional trajectories, including scientific presentations and communications, participation in funded research projects, publications, international placements and recognitions obtained during their training period.

For FISEVI, these distinctions highlight the value of young talent developing within Seville’s healthcare and research ecosystem, where clinical care, research and innovation advance together. As the organisation responsible for managing research and innovation across different public healthcare centres in Seville, FISEVI works to promote the development of excellent professionals and foster the generation of knowledge that benefits patients and society.
