The Foundation for the Management and Research of Health in Seville (FISEVI) is part of the consortium of the European NEW HEALTH project, a strategic initiative funded by the European Union, which aims to transform the healthcare system through innovation, digitalization, and cross-border cooperation.
This ambitious project, framed within the Spain–Portugal Interreg Programme (POCTEP) 2021–2027, brings together leading institutions from Spain and Portugal to develop a more efficient, sustainable, and patient-centered healthcare model, with a special focus on two high-impact areas: oncology and cardiovascular diseases.

The main objectives of this project are:
• Promote innovation in the healthcare field through the use of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and data analysis
• Improve the quality and efficiency of healthcare delivery by promoting a patient-centered model
• Foster cross-border cooperation between Galicia and Northern Portugal
• Strengthen clinical and translational research in key areas such as oncology and cardiovascular diseases
• Develop collaborative governance models that facilitate the integration of healthcare systems
In this context, FISEVI contributes to the development of the project through the work of research staff linked to the Virgen Macarena University Hospital (HUVM) and the Institute of Biomedicine of Seville (IBiS).
On one hand, Dr. Luis de la Cruz Merino, Head of the Medical Oncology Department at the Virgen Macarena University Hospital (HUVM) and Principal Investigator of the “Cancer Immunotherapy” Group at the Institute of Biomedicine of Seville (IBiS), join in the oncology field.
On the other hand, Dr. Rafael Hidalgo Urbano, Head of the Cardiology Department and Director of the Clinical Management Unit of Cardiology – Cardiovascular Surgery at the Virgen Macarena University Hospital (HUVM), participates in the cardiovascular diseases area.
In addition to FISEVI and the Virgen Macarena University Hospital, the following institutions are participating in this project:
• Galician Public Foundation for Health Research of Santiago de Compostela (FIDIS) – lead entity
• University of Santiago de Compostela (USC)
• Galician Health Knowledge Management Agency (ACIS)
• University of Vigo
• Biomedical Research Foundation of Salamanca (FIBSAL)
• Cancer Research Foundation of the University of Salamanca (FICUS)
• Institute of Health Sciences Foundation of Castilla y León (ICSCYL)
• Local Health Unit of Gaia/Espinho, E.P.E. (Portugal)
• Portuguese Institute of Oncology of Porto Francisco Gentil, E.P.E. (Portugal)
With this alliance, NEW HEALTH is consolidated as a leading initiative in cross-border healthcare innovation in Southern Europe, with real capacity to generate structural impact. The project acts as a driver of transformation in the healthcare system and as an advanced model of healthcare integration at the European scale. A project fully aligned with the priorities of the European Union in digitalization, territorial cohesion, and improvement of healthcare systems.

The project 0613_NEW_HEALTH is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under the Interreg VI-A Spain–Portugal (POCTEP) 2021–2027 Programme.
