Virgen Macarena University Hospital (HUVM) has reached a significant milestone within the European ECRAID-Base project by enrolling the 7,000th patient in the POS-cUTI study, an international observational research programme coordinated from the hospital by the Infectious Diseases and Microbiology Clinical Management Unit.

This achievement marks a key step forward in the development of the study, which involves 30 hospitals across several European countries, and highlights Virgen Macarena University Hospital’s leading role in clinical research on infectious diseases.

The POS-cUTI (Perpetual Observational Study in Complicated Urinary Tract Infections) aims to establish a permanent research infrastructure capable of launching clinical trials on the treatment of complicated urinary tract infections (cUTIs) rapidly and efficiently. These infections are among the leading causes of hospital admission and antibiotic use, making the availability of a well-established research platform essential for accelerating the generation of scientific evidence and improving patient care.

The enrolment of the 7,000th patient reflects the collective effort of all the clinical teams and researchers involved in the project. The study coordination team has acknowledged the commitment and dedication of the participating professionals, whose daily work has made it possible to reach this important milestone.
