The FISEVI/IBiS Technology Transfer Unit took part in BIOSPAIN 2026, held in Bilbao, one of the leading events in the biotechnology sector, bringing together companies, investors, research centres and other stakeholders within the life sciences ecosystem.
Represented by Rubén Nieto and Elvira Cruces, the Unit attended this year’s event with the aim of raising the profile of FISEVI/IBiS’s technology portfolio and identifying new opportunities for its development and transfer to the market. During the event, more than 35 meetings were held with various stakeholders across the sector, helping to identify potential synergies and opportunities for collaboration around technologies arising from biomedical research.

One of the main areas of focus has been identifying investors who could help drive the creation of spin-offs based on research findings from our centres, exploring new opportunities to further their development and potential commercial exploitation. Attendance has also provided an opportunity to learn about initiatives and opportunities related to industry-led open innovation programmes, broadening the scope for collaboration and engagement with the innovation ecosystem.
Participation in BIOSPAIN 2026 forms part of FISEVI/IBiS’s strategy to promote knowledge transfer, with a particular focus on fostering the creation of new spin-offs and identifying investment opportunities to support their development and growth. These activities aim to help technologies arising from biomedical research at our centres progress towards commercial exploitation and reach the market.
