The Virgen Macarena University Hospital, FISEVI, and the Aljarafe-Sevilla Norte Health District invite 1,000 women to take part in a study on cardiovascular disease during perimenopause and menopause

The Virgen Macarena University Hospital (HUVM), the Aljarafe-Sevilla Norte Primary Care Health District, and the Fundación para la Gestión de la Investigación en Salud de Sevilla (FISEVI) are inviting one thousand women, aged between 40 and 60, to take part in the Caramel-Woman research study. The aim of this study is to better understand how cardiovascular health presents in women within this age range, particularly during the menopausal transition.

This research is part of the Caramel project, which is funded by the Horizon Europe programme and aims to develop personalised prevention strategies for cardiovascular disease in women in this age group. To this end, an anonymous survey has been created to gather information on participants’ general health, lifestyle, and perception of cardiovascular risk.

The data collected will be key to designing digital tools and prevention models tailored to the specific characteristics of women’s health.

In addition to the survey, the project goes a step further by involving participants in the design of an innovative mobile application. Focus groups will be set up, where women will be able to share their experiences and opinions directly, contributing to the app’s co-design. Their involvement will be vital to ensure the platform is useful, accessible, and effective in supporting cardiovascular health. “We want to ensure their needs are met and involve them in the design process so the app is truly adapted to its users,” explain the project leaders.

Participation in the survey is completely voluntary and anonymous. Interested women can access the survey via the following QR code.

Furthermore, women who wish to join the focus groups and contribute directly to the app’s design can do so by contacting us via email at: proyectocaramel.fisevi@juntadeandalucia.es

The Caramel project brings together 25 institutions from 11 different countries, including universities, hospitals, and technology companies. The Caramel-Woman study in Andalusia is being organised and coordinated by researchers from the Virgen Macarena University Hospital (HUVM) and the Primary Care Research Unit of the Aljarafe-Sevilla Norte District.
