Strengthening European Healthcare Procurement through PROCURE’s Country Nodes Initiative

Share on:

The PROCURE project, a European Union-funded initiative, is reshaping healthcare procurement practices across Europe with its innovative Country Nodes model. With the collaboration of 24 partners across 11 EU Member States, PROCURE aims to address gaps in procurement strategies, improve patient outcomes, and ensure the long-term sustainability of healthcare systems, particularly in the wake of challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic.

A key element of PROCURE’s strategy is the establishment of Country Nodes, collaborative networks that bring together healthcare institutions, contracting authorities, private procurers, and suppliers to gather data, share knowledge, and develop policy recommendations. These networks are pivotal in driving PROCURE’s Observational Study on the European Healthcare & Procurement Environment, a critical project aimed at enhancing the efficiency, transparency, and resilience of healthcare procurement.

Between December 2023 and June 2024, Country Leaders in 10 Member States will continue developing their Country Nodes through targeted communication, partnerships with key networks like MedTech Europe, and interactive activities such as webinars and focus groups. These efforts are designed to engage healthcare organisations and gather valuable insights to inform future procurement practices across Europe.

Key Benefits of Participation in the Country Nodes:

  • Policy Influence: Organisations contribute to shaping EU healthcare procurement policies.
  • Visibility: Recognised as leaders in procurement practices, especially in light of COVID-19 lessons learned.
  • Networking: Access to a European network of healthcare and procurement stakeholders.

The Observational Study carried out by RESAH and supported by the participation of 148 healthcare organisations across 10 Member States, has already generated valuable insights into procurement practices. The results will contribute to evidence-based policy recommendations and lay the groundwork for future procurement strategies.

The creation of Country Nodes underscores PROCURE’s commitment to fostering collaboration and ensuring that healthcare procurement evolves to meet future challenges, ultimately strengthening healthcare systems across Europe. As the project progresses, the insights from these nodes will play a crucial role in shaping a more resilient, efficient, and sustainable healthcare procurement landscape.
