Last Thursday, September 5th, we received a visit from friends of Horno Artesa, a company from Arcos de la Frontera that held an event last April to celebrate its 10th anniversary and focused this event on a charitable collaboration that was born from a personal initiative of its leaders.
Under the motto “Tu Sonrisa da Vida (Your smile gives life)” an event was born full of activities for the whole family, music, charitable gastronomy… All of this was launched altruistically and those attending this birthday party could collaborate with a donation that would go to Childhood Cancer Research.
The result of this initiative? A donation of 10,000 € has been made by Horno Artesa to the Fundación para la Gestión de la Investigación en Salud de Sevilla (FISEVI) and that our foundation will allocate in its entirety to the Pediatric Oncology Unit of the Hospital Universitario Virgen del Rocío (HUVR) and specifically to the Pediatric Brain Tumors division, area of pediatric neurooncology, at the express wish of “Tu Sonrisa da Vida (Your smile gives life)”.
Dr. Palma Solano Páez, neurooncologist at the Children’s Hospital and principal investigator of Clinical Trials within FISEVI, was present at the event representing the Pediatric Oncology Unit, and had the opportunity to explain to the attendees the importance of investment to improve diagnostic advances and the development of new treatments specifically dedicated to tumors of the central nervous system in children. She recalled that brain tumors in pediatrics are the first cause of solid tumors in children, and in many of them, the prognosis remains adverse.

In this sense, the Children’s Hospital will soon be part of the International Consortium PNOC (Pediatric Neuro Oncology Consortium). The Consortium, founded in the United States, has now extended to Europe, and Spain has recently been selected to be included in it. PNOC develops the largest number of clinical trials with new therapies dedicated to pediatric patients with this pathology. Dr. Solano will be the Principal Investigator of the consortium at the Hospital Virgen del Rocío, and patients from all over the Andalusian Community may be included in these trials. She was especially grateful that the funds raised were going to be used for this purpose, to improve the prognosis of children with brain tumors.
It was a very touching meeting where the members of Horno Artesa and its solidarity project learned, through the Manager of FISEVI and the Instituto de Biomedicina de Sevilla (IBiS), José Cañón and Dr. Palma Solano herself, about the important research work that is managed and carried out in the reference centers of FISEVI, including the Hospital Virgen del Rocío.

Our entity, like the Pediatric Oncology Clinical Unit of the HUVR, thanks Horno Artesa for its involvement in health research and in areas with high research potential Thanks to this contribution.
We are convinced that your smile and that of all the people who have collaborated in your cause will give a lot of life.
