“We help people with cancer and their families with whatever they need,” these words are probably the ones that best define the Benalup con el Cáncer Association (BCC).
This non-profit organization from Cadiz visited the facilities of the Instituto de Biomedicina de Sevilla (IBiS) last Friday, November 15, to participate in the institutional donation ceremony that they have carried out in favor of the project “Organoides: Innovación para la medicina de precisión en cáncer de pulmón”.

A necessary project to advance in the fight against one of the most lethal cancers
This research initiative consists of the development of organoids, derived from real tumors of patients with these neoplasms and which are aggregates of cells cultured in specific three-dimensional matrices, which give rise to simplified organs that preserve some physiological functions of the tumor.
The objective of this research is to better understand the specific tumor and identify resistance mechanisms to the usual therapies that exist to treat it.
This project is directed by the Molecular and Translational Research Group in Oncology at IBiS, whose principal investigator is Dr. Javier Salvador Bofill.

The volunteers of the Benalup con el Cáncer Association were received by Mr. José Cañón, manager of the Fundación para la Gestión de la Investigación en Salud de Sevilla (FISEVI) and the Instituto de Biomedicina de Sevilla (IBiS), Dr. Reyes Bernabé Caro, head of the Thoracic and Lung Tumor Unit of the Hospital Universitario Virgen del Rocío (HUVR) and researcher of the Molecular and Translational Research in Oncology group of the IBiS and Dr. Sonia Pinelo Molina, researcher of the same group; all of them thanked the BCC Association for its donation of 6,000 euros that FISEVI will manage and transfer in its entirety, at the express wish of the board of directors of this non-profit group, to the aforementioned project of this IBiS group.
