Virgen del Rocío University Hospital has established a new working group to advance Research and Innovation. This week, it held its first meeting, attended by nearly one hundred professionals from all areas of the centre.

The group is made up of professionals with experience or interest in research, and has an interdisciplinary composition that includes medical and nursing representatives from all the hospital’s Clinical Management Units, as well as leads from key areas such as the Technological Innovation Group, the Platform for Support in Clinical Research and Clinical Trials, the Clinical Research and Clinical Trials Unit (UICEC), the Phase I/II Trials Unit, the Methodological and Statistical Support Unit (UAME), the Biobank, the Research Ethics Committee, the Teaching Commission, the transplant coordination office, and the management teams of FISEVI and IBIS, among others.
Chaired by the Medical Director and the Director of Nursing, the group will work across several strategic lines: fostering a research culture and activity in all areas of the hospital; identifying barriers and proposing solutions to improve research; promoting training and capacity building in research and innovation; disseminating calls, grants and funding opportunities; giving visibility to the projects, publications and results generated in the hospital; and boosting participation in national and international networks and consortia.
With the objective of optimising processes and strengthening the capabilities of research staff, the group seeks to identify barriers and propose solutions to enhance research activity; determine training needs and promote specific actions; and disseminate calls, grants and funding opportunities.
Regarding the goal of strengthening cooperation and boosting the hospital’s standing in the scientific field, the group will focus on promoting participation in networks, consortia and inter-institutional collaborations; driving the recruitment of research talent; taking part in the hospital’s biennial Research Day; and establishing research-related objectives within the management agreements of the units.
